Catholic Sentinel: Geared to help in disasters

Since the devastating wildfires of 2020 and the COVID-19 pandemic, Catholic Charities of Oregon has greatly expanded our Disaster Services program. Disaster Services Director, Jen Masotja, and her team are filling a major gap in disaster relief services, in part, by connecting disaster victims to Catholic Charities of Oregon’s other social service programs.

For instance, our Save First Financial Wellness program has helped wildfire victims recover financially from devastating losses. Our family, food, intercultural counseling and refugee services programs also fill a need, including services for non-English-speaking victims or those who are not U.S. citizens. We also have the ability to reach out to our incredible donors and partners to quickly secure grants and assistance dollars for services that other agencies may not be able to provide.
