Stone Soup PDX, the culinary training and meal making agency that works from several Catholic Charities buildings, recently organized a trash pickup around the Powell Boulevard headquarters.
Volunteers, including Catholic Charities communications director Ed Langlois, went out on a sunny morning with garbage bags and came back with hundreds of pounds of trash.
Gear and signups were provided by SOLVE, a local environmental nonprofit.
The chefs at Stone Soup PDX provided tasty puff pastries and coffee to workers.
Langlois picked up garage with Jim, a graduate of Stone Soup. The two men – both with gray beards — told each other stories and compared notes on aches and pains.
“We’re grateful to Stone Soup PDX for helping our entire neighborhood,” said Langlois. “The community spirit of the organization has been a boost to all of us.”
