Voices of Hope

Born and raised in Oregon, Breanna joined Catholic Charities in 2024 after seeking work that connected her more deeply to her community. As a human resources generalist, she’s inspired by the compassion and perseverance of her colleagues and proud to support an organization rooted in dignity, service, and belonging.

Breanna was born and raised in Oregon and is the youngest daughter of two Texas transplants. Her parents relocated back to Texas in 2017, and she decided to stay in Oregon and try living independently. Having now explored several other states, it’s clear nowhere else is quite like Oregon. The coast, mountains, rivers, forests, deserts, quaint farm towns, and bustling cityscapes are all within mere hours of each other and each bursting with something new to do.

Breanna began working full time right out of high school and was able to pursue a college education virtually. There were multiple opportunities to train along with amazing HR professionals who helped collectively affirm her decision to pursue work in the field. Catholic Charities is her first experience in the nonprofit realm and has been her favorite career experience.

Name: Breanna

Role with Catholic Charities (staff, board, volunteer, partner, client): Human Resources Generalist for Catholic Charities of Oregon

Year you first connected with Catholic Charities: 2024. I will reach my second year in February of 2026!

How did you hear about Catholic Charities of Oregon, and what prompted you to get involved? I was looking for a change in industry, and the idea of working for an organization serving individuals in my local community greatly appealed to me. Additionally, reading that Catholic Charities of Oregon has served in our state for over 90 years stood out to me as an impressive feat.

What does being part of Catholic Charities/Catholic Social Teaching mean to you personally? I’m proud knowing the organization I work for has improved the lives of folks in my local community. There is no doubt that recognizing the human dignity of everyone we meet is foundational to building just communities and forming meaningful relationships.

What’s one story or moment from your time with Catholic Charities that you’ll never forget? When I attended my first staff meeting, the camaraderie amongst long-time staff members felt welcoming, even to a newcomer like me. This was a great first impression.

What activities, situations or people most inspire you? I’m inspired by the perseverance and compassion of our client-facing staff. Despite the uncertain, and at times anxiety-inducing climate we are living in, our amazing staff members are consistent in their commitment.

What advice would you give to someone who wants to get involved—whether through volunteering, donating or seeking support? Remember every contribution, no matter the size or scope, is a crucial part of the work we do. Every donor, volunteer and staff member play an integral role in some way to our mission.

What’s your favorite book, movie, TV show, podcast or social media account—and why? (Pick one!) A family-friendly movie I feel everyone should see at least once; Spirited Away. Spirited Away is visually stunning, emotionally moving, and transforms difficult themes into a palatable fantasy adventure.

What’s on your personal “bucket list”—something you still hope to do, learn or experience? Travel out of the country. I haven’t had the chance to do so (yet) and there is plenty of world to see.
