Hope doesn’t always arrive through a grand gesture. Sometimes it looks like a new backpack before the first day of school, a few hours volunteered or a gift that helps someone get through a difficult moment.
For Development Associate Katy Franz, those everyday acts of generosity are part of what makes the work of Catholic Charities of Oregon so meaningful. In this month’s Voices of Hope, Katy shares what inspires her, why she believes every contribution matters and how helping our neighbors can add up to lasting change.

Katy Franz knows a thing or two about bringing people together – and about the generosity that can follow.
A University of Oregon graduate with degrees in journalism and theater arts, Katy has worked in event planning and development for more than 20 years. Katy brings that mix of creativity, organization and fundraising experience to CCO’s development team. Her work connects her directly with the generosity of our donors.
Outside of work, Katy loves gardening and vintage shopping. She’s also the mom of two daughters, one in middle school and one in high school. For this month’s Voices of Hope, we caught up with Katy to learn more about the person behind fundraising, what givers her hope and why she believes in the work of Catholic Charities of Oregon.
Name: Katy Franz
Role with Catholic Charities (staff, board, volunteer, partner, client): I am on staff, and my title is development Associate.
Year you first connected with Catholic Charities: I started working with Catholic Charities of Oregon on Dec. 1, 2025.
How did you hear about Catholic Charities of Oregon, and what prompted you to get involved? As a native Oregonian, I had always heard wonderful things about Catholic Charities of Oregon and the meaningful work the nonprofit does in our community. I was drawn to the opportunity to be part of an organization that helps people in such practical and compassionate ways.
What does being part of Catholic Charities/Catholic Social Teaching mean to you personally? To me, it means loving your neighbor, helping those in need, and giving back whenever possible.
What’s one story or moment from your time with Catholic Charities that you’ll never forget? I’ll never forget helping with the Back-to-School supplies event and seeing the kids’ faces light up as they received their new backpacks and school supplies. It was such a joyful reminder of how even simple acts of support can make a meaningful difference.
What activities, situations or people most inspire you? I’m inspired by people who recognize problems or needs in our society and humbly take action to help or create change.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to get involved — whether through volunteering, donating or seeking support? Every little bit helps. Even a couple of hours a week, or a few dollars, it all adds up to make a big difference.
What’s your favorite book, movie, TV show, podcast or social media account — and why? (Pick one!) One of my favorite books is Jane Eyre. I’ve always been drawn to its dark, gothic atmosphere, the mystery woven throughout, and the heart-wrenching romance at its center. More than anything, I love Jane herself — strength, independence, and quiet determination make her such a powerful and unforgettable heroine.
What’s on your personal “bucket list”— something you still hope to do, learn or experience? I love to travel, so many of the things on my bucket list are places I hope to visit someday. With my Irish ancestry, Ireland is especially meaningful to me and is one of the top places I’d love to explore next. Greece and Thailand are also destinations I’m really excited to experience.
